About

Layton Kor_Totem Pole_early60s_2

Layton Kor is one of the most legendary climbers of the 1960′s, the golden age of rock climbing.  He put up many new routes across his home state of Colorado, on the desert spires in Utah and Arizona, on the walls of Yosemite Valley, and in Europe in the Italian Dolomites and on the big peaks like the Eigerwand in Switzerland.   Layton also authored the book Beyond the Vertical, now a collector’s item.

He is equally revered for his humble, quiet manner, and his endless drive to climb.  Now Layton, a tall 70-year-old man with a shock of white hair, still has the fire to do first ascents and get out on vertical terrain. He needs a kidney transplant, which costs over $250,000, plus the costs of all the drugs and the cost of the drugs he takes now, as well as dialysis three times a week, and a substantial monthly insurance deductible. His insurance and Medicaid and Medicare simply do not cover all the costs.

The climbing community has been unanimously supportive of Layton, by donating gear, time and ad space.  He is truly one of the fathers of our sport.  Please join this effort to help him.
